When patients express an interest in taking everything they have learned back home with them, we are thrilled to hear from them. This allows them to continue to work on their rehabilitation, recovery, and injury prevention programs in the comfort of their own home, yard, or nearby park, which is something we love to hear. However, self-care in this capacity must be done with caution, and ideally in accordance with our explicit instructions. Making the appropriate investments in your home's equipment makes perfect sense when you're doing so. While we certainly don't advise purchasing a lymphedema compression device, ultrasound therapy machine, or your own physical therapy treatment table, we do recommend that you consult with a healthcare professional. Instead, there are a variety of practical, inexpensive, and extremely useful "tools" that you can purchase for use at home to complement your in-clinic work to make your life easier.

It is for this reason that exercise/stability balls are one of the most frequently encountered items within the confines of a physiotherapy equipmentclinic.

When it comes to improving your balance and core stability, they are extremely effective, and they can be used in the recovery of a wide variety of physical ailments. In addition to improving flexibility and muscle strength, stability ball work (when performed in the proper manner as prescribed by your physiotherapist) has been shown to be effective in the treatment of conditions such as ankylosing spondylitis (a type of arthritis that affects the spine). As an added bonus, stability balls are relatively inexpensive, making them an excellent addition to your home physiotherapy "starter kit."

6. K-Tape (also known as KT Tape or Athletic Tape)

Kinesiology tape, also known as k-tape, kt-tape, or simply athletic tape, is an elastic strip that is typically attached to a part of your body with an acrylic adhesive. During your appointment, your physiotherapist will demonstrate how to apply k-tape to the affected area so that you can repeat the procedure at home before participating in a sport or physical activity. K-tape has recently become something of an athletic fashion statement, so be sure to consult with your physical therapist about which brands to purchase because there are a lot of copycat/faux versions on the market that do not provide the same level of support as the genuine article.
