A simulation of the Charlotte Hornets' 2021-22 season in the NBA 2K22 game from Keith Norris's blog

What could be a better substitute for real hoops than virtual hoops, you might ask? ATHers may recall the series we did for SBNation's "video game week" in June 2020, which saw a Hornets MyLeague sim begin just after the NBA's hiatus and run through the end of the virtual 2020-21 season, leaving off at the exact point in time that we're at in the present-day. The Hornets MyLeague sim began just after the NBA's hiatus and ran through the end of the virtual 2020-21 season, leaving off atAlthough this article will be formatted in a similar manner as the previous ones, we will be using 2K22 instead of 2K20 and thus will have different rosters and player ratings than in the previous articles.

Users (in this case, myself) have the ability to approve or veto trades between CPU teams (teams that I do not control), make or change league rules, and relocate franchises, among a variety of other capabilities. Basically, we're going to be playing a basketball video game on the computer, with the computer simulating actual gameplay and me pretending to be Mitch Kupchak and Adam Silver combined into a single individual. Let's get this ball rolling right away!

Following that, we sketch out the rotation. Accordingly, Jones and JT Thor will not be regular rotation members to begin the season, and Miles Bridges will retain his spot in the presumed starting five, in order to keep things realistic. Here's a look at the rotation map for the first few weeks of the season.

On 10-19 FG, 6-10 3P, and 3-3 FT, LaMelo Ball finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, along with two steals and a block, in a 30-point drubbing of the Pacers in game one, which also saw Terry Rozier score 35 points. Unfortunately, the good fortune didn't last long, and Kelly Oubre Jr. was forced to miss 6-8 weeks of action due to a right humerus fracture.

As a result of Oubre Jr.'s injury, Brodric Thomas and Malik Fitts were signed to two-way contracts by 2K Sports, despite them having been signed months earlier and the release of a new iteration of the NBA 2K Franchise being September 10th. This stretch will also serve as a time for me to rotate in Jones and JT Thor for their first rotational minutes of their respective careers before assigning them to Greensboro.

Hayward was averaging 19.9 points per game while shooting 40.5 percent from beyond the arc, Rozier was connecting on 40.6 percent of his three-point attempts, and Miles Bridges and PJ Washington were both averaging about 13 points per game in a productive manner. It appears that the injuries to Ball and Oubre have wreaked havoc on the team's record in the early going.

8 points, 3.6/32.6 shooting splits with a 55.6 true shooting percentage, James Bouknight was named to the All-Rookie second team after averaging 11.8 points, 3.6/32.6 shooting splits. There were no other Hornets honored with a postseason award this year. The Milwaukee Bucks swept the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2022 NBA Finals, and Giannis Antetokounmpo was named Finals MVP for the second time in a row.

Since the Xbox One version of 2K was only released a few days before the publication of this article, there haven't been many reliable draft classes created for the game's Xbox One version. The Hornets MyLeague will be revisited once the hardworking roster creators of the 2K community have released their classes for 2022 and beyond.

Meanwhile, we wallow in our sorrow because it is clear that this game is not fond of our squad, which had a middling record and suffered from terrible injury luck during the first round of play. Ball's selection to the All-Star team and Bouknight's selection to the All-Rookie team were the only bright spots throughout the season. As it stands, the Bugs will have to settle for victories on the actual Spectrum Center court.
